My sister's got a baby, and my fiancee's housemate's dad died. It does make you think. We're gonna be replaced by someone else sooner or later. I am really happy for my sister though. I think the whole being a parent thing made her and my brother-in-law grow up all of a sudden, or so it seems. I feel more younger now with them. I am not sure if I am gonna be a dad. I am excited and terrified of the idea at the same time.
We visited the house that we're gonna be moving into, to take some measurements. My girlfriend studied Interior Design in college, so she has ideas in her head of what to do with the house. The budget we have is gonna be her biggest deterrant. The expenses of acquiring the house is big enough plus the rennovations, there is not much to buy after we move in.
But we still plan to replace the tiles. While I don't like it, I can bear with it. Meow, on the other hand, has an aversion for vinyl tiles. The tiles must go. The bathroom has to go through an overhaul as well. It does not exactly have rare Italian tiles, just small, dark and stained ones with its edges blackened dry of mildew and slime, so they must all go. And of course, I don't like using any toilet bowl that someone else used for years. And it stinks. The stench of that room makes me feel dizzy. I am not sure how we're gonna work with that, but it should at least be nice and clean.
Also, we need to do something about the stairs. There is a Filipino superstition about stairs, where the steps should not be divisble by three. Oro Plata Mata is what they call it. Gold Silver Death. The third step symoblizes death. Oro is Gold, Plata is Silver. To have Gold is lucky and Silver Ok, but not Death. The stair's landing ends with Mata. So my Dad wants to have that fixed and volunteered for the task, supported by my girlfriend who also wants to have that remedied.
I think they're gonna cement the last step, take down the grotto (that the previous owner have placed just in front of the stairs). Initially I thought it would make a nice plant box, but I guess it has to go, too. Anyway, I am not that religious, and the saint, whoever it was, was taken off already. So I think it wouldnt be too bad.
With all these superstition talk, I did some research, and found the weirdest things to do. Like whn you own a cat, let her pass by the window, so she won't run away. Always brin a new broom. First things to carry are bread (or grain) and salt. I also found some plants to plant and not to plant to ward off spirits.
I am always not sure what to make of superstition. I guess it does not matter to me that much. I am at work right now. I have just three days of work this week. I have some leaves to use. I filed that coz I thought I'd be able to do the moving this weekend. We still haven't. We still have some papers to file and things like that. I hope everything goes well. I'd be disappointed if it doesn't.
