Up in the ceiling, we have a housemate. We're not sure what he or she is. All we know know is that he's been there for months. He was not there when we first moved, then later on, we noticed the sounds he makes at night.
So this roused our curiosity, not knowing how to check him out. Immediately, we suspected he's a python. It is not uncommon for homes for Philippine homes to have pythons in its vicinity, especially with the kind of environment we have. Then we also suspected the supernatural kind.
That made us unsure if we want to check him out. We then made a list of what they can be. We later on decided that snake slithers and it is doubtful that snakes make those seemingly footstep sounds (for the lack of words that I could think of now).
Then we thought it might be mice or rats, then the sound is too heavy to be made by just mere rodents. Plus lately, we are unable to see signs of them.
Then we thought of musang, the local wildcat, but we don't think he can climb there at night without our dogs noticing. We hear his sounds at about nine at night and at about 4 a.m., and we can only assume that whatever he is, he is nocturnal, and leaves and goes home at that time.
A few nights ago, we noticed that he makes a sweeping sound as well. And we assume that it must be wings. By the sound of it, since our roof is high, his wingspan must be long. We think it may be a hawk or an owl, both birds a bit of a rarity in the city, and it made us happy if it is the case that a majestic creature chose our home.
I think, in the end, I would like to leave it at that. Whether we would need to confirm our suspicions, it would depend when necessity calls for it. Besides, I don't want to be disappointed. He does not seem like a nuisance, and I find no reason to chase him away.
Now, we would leave it be. It would be nice though if he can show himself if he indeed really is. That would make us happy.
